After a hiatus of two years, the petition to get Hamas removed from the Proscribed list of the UK Government is being relaunched.
This is because it is becoming clear that as long as Hamas exists, Gaza will be bombed- and possibly completely depopulated. Because Hamas are deemed terrorists, the UK arms Israel to bomb Gaza. We need to put much more pressure on the Government to recognise Hamas.
The petition text has been updated; see it at www.tiny.cc/hamas There are presently 1,510 signatures; the first tranche of 1,410 were delivered to Downing Street in January 2024. When the next batch of 1,500 are added, there will be another delivery to Downing Street, and so on. This petition now supports the Riverways Law de-proscription bid of 2025 (see it at https://hamascase.com/). Riverways are continuing their bid through the Proscribed Organisations Appeal Commission.
As noted two years ago- The petition to have Hamas removed from the UK ‘terrorist’ list lives on – Middle East Monitor
The re-launch was promoted at this talk by the petitioner in London on 30th May 2026- see it at www.tiny.cc/hamastalk
(A shorter article based on the talk was published at Pete’s Substack | Substack. Also in Discussion article: Call for Hamas De-Proscription – Consistent Democrats – LCFI); the Dorset Eye article covered – see The Case for De-Proscribing Hamas: A Debate Britain Is Reluctant to Have – Dorset Eye )
The second aim is to get petitioners to write to their MPs to seek their support and rethink the narrative of October 7th 2023. (see Redress article). It is clear that it will take a great deal of pressure and publicity to persuade the Government.
To this end, it is worth noting that Britain’s Muslim police body defends Hamas and labels the IDF as a “terrorist group”.
Furthermore, more than a quarter of British undergraduates consider the Hamas attacks of October 7 to be “defensible”, according to a new survey by the Higher Education Policy Institute.
It is clear that the tide is turning. Polls have shown that two-thirds to three-quarters of Palestinians approved of Hamas’s October 7 attacks.
